CVCF 2022 Retreat Theme

The Cross Before Me

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." Lk 9:23.

Some of us are keenly aware of the cost and challenges to be a follower of Christ. Others don't want to face it or have grown weary. At some point, we will all face the question - is it worth it?

Pastor Byung Ham

Main Retreat Speaker

Byung Ham was born in S. Korea but immigrated to Baltimore, MD as an infant in 1980.

Without the saving grace of Jesus Christ, Byung used hip-hop, sports, and pleasure to find meaning out of life. After giving his life to God, Byung believes that, "to live is Christ and to die is gain." He was trained and equipped at Washington Bible College and Capital Bible Seminary.

This may be difficult to believe but he delivered his first sermon at the age of nineteen. Byung still resides in Baltimore, MD.

1. What is one encouragement, challenge, or truth that spoke to you as you listened to the sermon?

2. "Looking unto Jesus..." means looking away from everything else life has to offer, even the most meaningful (e.g. Love, family, career, friendship, health) What are the distractions of your life that hinder you from "looking unto Jesus as the author and finisher" of your salvation?

Saturday Night Sermon

GENESIS 22:1-19 Sermon Title: Untethered

1. What is one encouragement, challenge, or truth that the Lord spoke to you?

2. Are there things in your life that if God took away away from you, it might cause you to question His goodness?

3. God desires a one-of-a-kind relationship with you that is birthed from a one-of-a-kind test. You can't spell "testimony" without test so every "grace story" or testimony comes from the testing of your faith. Does this truth comfort or discourage you? How come?
