BOARD CHAIRMAN

Thai Chung has been a member of Vietnamese Hope Baptist Church since 1997 and serves on the church board of deacons. He also serves as a youth Sunday School teacher. He is currently working towards a Master of Theology (ThM) degree at Dallas Theological Seminary. He desires to see the next generation of young people live a Christ centered life and step into leadership roles at their local churches, especially the Vietnamese churches. He is the current president of the CVCF board and has served with CVCF since its inception in 1999 on the original planning committee when it was just a youth retreat for the Vietnamese churches in the Washington Metropolitan area.

UYEN DANG

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER

Since the late 1990’s, Uyen served at Vietnamese Hope Baptist Church where she led Sunday school and activities for the youth for over a decade. Through collaboration with the churches in Maryland in the early 2000’s, she began serving on the organizing committee of the CVCF. Being a first generation Vietnamese refugee immigrant she saw the need to be a bridge between the first and second generation Vietnamese families. Having a heart to equip the next generation, Uyen has also served with the South East Asian Catalyst (SEAC) ministry. McLean Bible Church (MBC) is her current church home. Most recently, she proudly graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS)  with a degree in Master of Arts in Christian Leadership (MACL) where she serves as a Campus Advisor on the DTS-DC Campus in Virginia.

MAI THU

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER

Thu was born in Vietnam and accepted Christ in the Philippine while her family migrated to the US in the late 80s.  Since then, she attended and served at the Clifton Park Vietnamese Baptist Church in Takoma Park, Maryland through 1997. In 1998 she moved to Baltimore and served at the Vietnamese Baptist Church of Baltimore through 2011. In 1998 the local Vietnamese church leadership had the vision to organize a summer camp, and she served in the planning committee through various roles. The annual summer retreat evolves into the Capital Vietnamese Christian Fellowship (CVCF), whose purpose is to inspire young Vietnamese Christian to walk with God, live a Christ-centered life, and share the gospel with others.

RON HAMMERSLEY

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBER

Ron Hammersley was first introduced into the Vietnamese Christian Community when his home church (Fourth Presbyterian Church of Bethesda Maryland) sponsored a refugee family in 1988. When they were invited to Clifton Park Vietnamese Baptist Church in Takoma Park Maryland (now, Living Faith Vietnamese Baptist of Laurel Maryland), Ron visited the church and was warmly welcomed.  In partnership with members of the church, He began leading a combination English practice/Bible verse and song sessions for new-comers to the country. A few years later, with prayer and encouragement from his home church and the Vietnamese Church, he founded “Special Handling” to employ newly-arrived Vietnamese to assist with handwork in printing and mailing operations.

In the late 1990s, the Vietnamese Christian community began having summer retreats.  Ron was asked to participate in the planning sessions. The annual retreat evolved into the CVCF, which continues today.  Ron’s role on the board is largely prayer and encouragement and providing some additional perspective on changes occurring within the Vietnamese community and American society as a whole.
